Make PWP your Pet Project!
Over the years we've spoken with many people who want to help the shelter, but
don't have the time to volunteer or the spare change to donate. We've put
together a list of creative ways you can generate support for the shelter.
Many of these have actually been done by supporters.
Purchase a Cage
Sponsorship as a
gift. These are meaningful gifts for the person who has everything.
Simply download and complete the
sponsorship form.
We'll send the recipient a card, notifying them of the gift.
Throw a Party
& make PWP the beneficiary - have guests donate
a monetary gift at the door, or bring a supply for "admission" to your party.
Organize a Supply Drive
@ your office - post our Wish List and
encourage co-workers to donate. Have a contest to see which department
generates the most.
Have a Yard Sale with friends, neighbors, or go solo.
Clean out your closets and make PWP the beneficiary.
Tailgate
for the pets. Why not? What better excuse to support your team and
the shelter. Host a tailgate and have friends donate a monetary gift or
supply. Organize a Dress Down Day at the office. Only
those who donate a dollar (or two, or three) can dress down.
Have a
Happy Hour - ask your favorite watering hole to throw a happy hour for
PWP.
Pick up "irregulars" at the store - ask your grocery store
manager what the store does with their ripped bags of litter, their slightly
damaged cans of cat food. It's likely they pitch them. Ask the
manager if you can arrange to pick up the irregular items on a regular basis.
Currently, the Giant Eagle in Hilliard and Powell donate regularly to the
shelter.
Have more great suggestions to add to
the list? Email Paige at
phisayo@hotmail.com. Please put in the subject line "Pet Project." |
Make a financial contribution
A
common misconception about the shelter is that we receive tax funding.
This is simply not true. PWP is funded through adoption fees,
fundraisers, and donations. If you're able to make a monetary
donation, please understand how much it helps. Every dollar truly
goes to the pets. Plus, maintaining a no-kill philosophy is quite
costly. We must ensure all of our pets live quality lives while at the
shelter, which sometimes means several months.

truly costs, click

Donate today - it's tax deductible! |
Donate Supplies
We can always use any of the below listed
supplies. It saves us money when supporters donate these items,
allowing us to allocate more funds to the pets' veterinary needs.

Our shelter is always in need of
helping hands. Volunteering is a very rewarding experience.
You meet new pets and grow attached.
You learn the pets' stories and cultivate your own space in their hearts,
as they find a place in yours. When a pet is adopted that you have
grown close to, the thrill and happiness is unmatched. Below
is a list of volunteer opportunities and a description of what each entails.
If something interests you, simply attend a Volunteer Orientation.
Orientations are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. Orientations
last under one hour and no pre-registration is necessary. Simply print off
and complete the Volunteer
Application and bring it with you.
If you have questions, please contact Meg:
volunteer@petswithoutparents.net.
Volunteering at the
shelter – If you want hands-on experience caring for
pets, volunteering at the shelter is your place. You get lots of time to
interact with pets. We need help with cage cleaning, dog walking, general
cleaning throughout the shelter, data entry, cat socializing, etc. All
volunteers must be at least 13 years of age;12 & under must be
accompanied by an adult.
Off-site Adoption
Events –This entails taking pets from the shelter to
designated places so they get more visibility. When helping with off-site
events, volunteers meet at the shelter to pick up pets and necessary supplies. Once at the location,
volunteers simply sit with the pets and talk to customers about the adoption
option. We currently attend two events regularly:
> Petco – The Lennox Petco and Pets Without Parents have a very strong relationship. We
take PWP pets there every weekend for two hours per day. In return, Pets
Without Parents is a beneficiary of Petco’s fundraisers.
>
Mingle With Our Mutts – This is a multi-shelter/rescue event held the first
and third Sundays of every month at the Franklin County Dog Shelter. From
12:00-2:00, we sit with adoptable pets and talk with potential adopters. Mingle
is a huge success because we find a lot of highly qualified homes for our pets.
Fundraisers
– PWP is constantly holding fundraisers to help sustain the shelter. From car
washes, to garage sales, to a one-mile fun run, we are always needing help with
all stages of the fundraising process. The fundraiser volunteers communicate
regularly through a Yahoo message board.
